black mental health is health

Mental health is an essential part of overall well-being, yet Black communities continue to face unique challenges in accessing the care they need. Black Mental Health Week is a time to acknowledge these barriers, highlight the resilience of Black individuals, and advocate for culturally competent mental health care.

At the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), there are resources available to support Black mental wellness. Whether you’re seeking professional help, looking for community-based support, or hoping to learn more about Black mental health, CAMH offers tools to help you on your journey.

The Realities of Black Mental Health

Black individuals often experience:

  • Higher rates of stress and trauma due to systemic racism, discrimination, and socioeconomic barriers.

  • Stigma surrounding mental health, which can make seeking help feel like a challenge within families or communities.

  • A lack of Black mental health professionals, making it difficult to find culturally competent care.

  • Barriers to access, including financial limitations, long wait times, and limited availability of Black therapists.

Despite these challenges, mental health care is for everyone, and there are ways to access the support you deserve.
